Emmy Eats Bugs

Updated: Mar 13, 2018

I'd like to start eating bugs. I don't think I could incorporate them into my diet as a main source of protein (mainly because it isn't that easy to obtain bugs) but I want to try crickets and mealworms. For inspiration, I decided to watch this video of Emmy. I really like her because she is Japanese (just like me) and she is a major foodie (also like me).

Unlike me, Emmy seems fearless in trying new things. As I watched her five videos on her five days of Bugmas, I felt fear. Some of the bugs, such as crickets and worm jerky, were not too bad for me. They're things that I think I would be able to handle. However, she tried a few very large insects that I would not be able to stomach as of now. For example, the zebra tarantula (man, that thing is large and hairy!) and the giant water bug. Emmy had trouble biting into the water bug, so I would probably dislike that even more than the spider (even though I hate spiders) because I would have to think about how hard to bite and it would be a constant reminder of the very, very large insect between my teeth. The water bug also looks like a cockroach, and I absolutely hate cockroaches; I think of garbage when I think of them. In both of the cultures that i am from (Japanese and American), cockroaches are not seen as appetizing.

Anyways, I really like this set of videos and I enjoy hearing a foodie's opinion on the insects. I highly recommend this set of videos to anyone who is interested in trying bugs because Emmy gives very good critiques and she also shares where she got her insects.
