For my birthday, I went to this restaurant called Blue Ribbon. I was really looking forward to the sea urchin but there was no more left when I got to the restaurant, which really bummed me out. Just for your information, this restaurant was very good (tasty food and nice seating).
I really love seafood. Unfortunately, I have some bubble-bursting news for my fellow Americans who also like seafood. Seafood is basically insects that live in the sea. For example, when you are eating shrimp, you are basically eating a cricket of the sea. Seafood and edible insects have much in common.
Ok, now back to my restaurant story. While dining, I ordered a Botan Ebi (a type of shrimp). They give you the main meaty area raw but they also deep-fry the head and give it to the customers. When my fried shrimp head came, I was a little hesitant to eat the entire thing because it included its brain and eyes. I started nibbling on the head. Eventually, I ran out of shrimp head that I felt comfortable nibbling on. I continued to eat the head; eventually, I had consumed the whole thing. During this shrimp head eating session, I had to overcome my fears of eating something that seemed gross to me. When I was able to do this, I was rewarded with the tastiness of whole, deep-fried shrimp head. I think this experience will prepare me for eating other bugs that I am more uncomfortable with.
PS the man in the picture is my brother and the reddish Botan Ebi is visible beneath the orchid.
